Oscars. Grammys. Emmys. Contrary to popular notion, celebrities do not have it all. Sure, they have lots of great clothes and rarely do their own laundry. Yes, most luxuries are a mere phone call away. In some cases, a simple look can send servants into a whirlwind of activity. But the truth is, there is something very important missing from their lives. Stephen Spielberg can’t buy it. Annette Benning lost it. And I’m not sure Dakota Fanning ever had it.
Privacy.
Privacy is something I value immensely. So, when I talk about Julia Roberts, I always call her “Julia Roberts.” When I talk about Brad Pitt, it’s strictly “Brad Pitt.” And, when referring to George Clooney, it’s always “Marie Osmond.” I don’t know why. I’m not sure how that happened.
The truth is, I don’t know any of the famous people I just mentioned but I do work with some other famous people. I handle their money. I make it grow. Sometimes I pay their very large bar tabs. Wow. I never talk about them (or their bar tabs) in my real life. But here, behind this line-drawing? All’s fair, right?
Wrong.
Even here, behind this line-drawing, the Paparrazzied-People in my life will find the one thing they lost. The one thing they gave up. The one thing they might like back. Privacy. It’s a lovely precious thing. Don’t ever take it for granted.
Just ask “The Dixie Chicks.”
