They say there are no stupid questions. I say there are plenty of stupid questions and I think I’ve asked every last one of them. At least I hope so because if I ever ask another one like I did last night my friends will never be seen with me again.
They say sticks and stones can break our bones but words can never hurt us. I say words can bring the best of us to our knees with unforgettable pain. Sticks are good for fire. Stones are good for fireplaces and fireplaces are good for…well, you get the picture.
They say the scariest day in the life of any family is the day a writer is born. I say the scariest day in the life of any man is the day he makes a date with a writer.
My date last night was with a friend. He said these words: better late than never. I responded: sometimes better never than late.
Suffice it to say it was not the most favorite date he’s ever had with me. We finished up; exchanged pleasantries; and I headed to the film festival where I saw an amazing picture called “Knuckleball” directed by Ken Sons. It is the story of funny guy, Brett Leake.
After the show, in front no less than 300 people, one of my favorite friends bounced out of her seat (like a seventh grader) and asked the director what had to be the most ridiculous question imaginable. Some would call it stupid. But not me. No, not me. I might have, but I was stunned silent.
Poor girl. All I know is there are plenty of stupid questions out there and thank god I’ve got “friends” who ask them!
